Jacob's Ladder - A rope ladder with wooden rounds used for getting on or off a vessel not at a berth. Also referred to as a pilot's ladder because of its extensive use by vessels' pilots.

Jettison - The act of throwing goods or pumping cargo overboard to lighten a ship to improve stability in an emergency.
